Winter cod fishing is what this area is best known for, and the colder months are the best time to target the Bristol Channel 'Mud Pigs'. Uptiding has proved the best method for catching cod with the best bait being lugworm tipped with squid although good catches can be had on other bait.

Other species available at this time of year are whiting, conger, rays, hard fighting spurdogs and the chance of the occasional haddock which have been appearing in larger numbers over the last couple of years.

Cod fishing trips can be of 4, 8, 10, or 12 hours in duration and depart from Minehead harbour.
